Sardinia is not just about Caribbean-like beaches and high society. For those who, like us, have fishing running through their veins, it is an unexplored paradise, a labyrinth of coasts, shallows, and bathymetric lines that promise unforgettable adventures. With this spirit, we set off on a 10-day expedition to the northeast of the island, a journey with a clear objective: to discover new spots for catching prey as coveted as they are fascinating. Accompanying us on this adventure were two exceptional figures: the expert Captain Cinelli, a man who knows the sea, and Alessandro, a friend and fisherman of unquestionable talent.<\/p>

Base at the Marina di Puntaldia: The Beginning of Our Adventure<\/b><\/p>

Our base camp was the picturesque Marina di Puntaldia, a strategic point close to home, which allowed us to easily reach our areas of interest: the imposing promontory of Capo Figari, the marine area of Tavolara and Molara, and the evocative rocks of “I Tre Fratelli” (The Three Brothers). Every dawn was a promise, every sunset a balance of discoveries and catches.<\/p>

We dedicated the first few days to exploring the mixed seabeds of sand and Posidonia in the nearby areas. Here, our primary target was the common seabream. Under the guidance of Captain Cinelli, we carefully scanned the bathymetric lines between 20 and 40 meters, searching for those “smudges” on the fishfinder that betrayed the presence of baitfish and, consequently, predators. The technique that gave us the most satisfaction was bottom fishing, with thin lines and very fresh bait, using small pieces of squid. The catches were not long in coming: a large seabream, with its unmistakable pinkish livery, put our equipment and our skills to the test.<\/p>

Magical Nights Hunting for Squid<\/b><\/p>

At sunset and sunrise, the scene changed completely. The bottom fishing rods gave way to those for tataki, and our attention shifted to squid. The tataki technique, which consists of retrieving artificial shrimp-shaped lures (the squid jigs) with small jerks and pauses, proved to be deadly. We discovered that the squid in this area prefer jigs with natural and inconspicuous colors, and it was also a surprise to find the squid hunting during the daytime.<\/p>

Sailing in the Tavolara and Molara Marine Protected Area<\/b><\/p>

A significant part of our trip was dedicated to exploring the crystal-clear waters of the Tavolara and Molara Marine Protected Area. It is essential to emphasize the importance of fishing in these areas in full compliance with the regulations. We therefore informed ourselves in advance about the rules, discovering that recreational fishing is permitted in Zone C, with lines and stationary rods, subject to authorization.<\/p>

It was in these waters that we had the good fortune to come across some of the most promising spots. Sailing close to the rocks of “I Tre Fratelli,” between Molara and Molarotto, we identified some shallows that turned out to be a true sanctuary for seabream. The decisive bites and powerful runs of these sparids gave us pure adrenaline rushes.<\/p>

The waters around Molara also proved to be extremely generous for squid. At sunset, we positioned ourselves over seabeds of about 30 meters and cast our tataki lines, a technique that involves using multiple squid jigs in a series.<\/p>

Ten Days of Passion and Friendship<\/b><\/p>

This fishing trip in Sardinia was much more than a simple fishing outing. It was a total immersion in the wild and unspoiled nature of this island, an opportunity to learn the secrets of the sea from a true expert like Captain Cinelli.<\/p>

We return home with a baggage full of indelible memories, of fiery sunrises, of exciting fights, and the awareness of having discovered new, precious spots that we will jealously guard. Sardinia has bewitched us once again, and we already can’t wait to return to sail its crystal-clear waters, in search of the next adventure.<\/p>
